Is it really possible to accurately find out whether the PC is infected or not through online virus scanning? if so, Please give me the links of such online virus scanning services for free.

Which is the best antivirus software online which will scan the computer online or one that you can download free software to scan it? Any good virus scanners that you know or you know is good from personal experience?

I had to reinstall windows on my computer, after I did that my ethernet controller driver was missing and now I cant get online useing the DSL I need to reinstall this driver is there a way that I can find this online or is there a free program that will scan my drivers and restore them for me.
Kaspersky provides a free online scan at their site. When I try to scan online, the first thing it does is of course update the virus definitions. When I reach a hundred %, an error pops up which says
Update process FAILED. No further antivirus functions can be performed. Attention. You must be online to activate Kaspersky Online Scanner, since the latest Antivirus bases version must be downloaded prior to scan. Otherwise we cannot guarantee the detection of latest viruses. [21]
Obviously, I am online. I am connected to the internet because I was able to access the site of Kaspersky. I thought maybe the problem’s in my browser. I reinstalled Internet explorer but nothing happened. I still wait for the update only to find out that it can not proceed further. Please help me. I don’t want any other scanners or antiviruses. On the bottom right dock of Windows XP there is a little red shield with an X in it, the same as the XP Security logo that is there. A text box pops out that says "You have a security problem." If you click on the box it takes you to a web site called pro-scan-online.com, saying it is doing a "Free Virus Scan". It NEVER goes away. Everything on the website is very shady. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
