I’m looking for some good free virus scans/spyware detectors available online because my McAfee trial has run out on my new laptop. They can be either used online or downloadable. No scams please!

You would have to first properly uninstall McAfee. It is really harmful for two or more difference antivitus software to run on the same computer. For free, you can download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware at http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php. If you want internet security, to help prevent viruses, you might want to buy something like Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. It costs about $10 on eBay.

Firstly Uninstall Mcafee Antivirus.Then download Avast Home Edition.It is free and will not slow down your PC.Only you have to register it for free from their site and they will e-mail you a key.The links are given below.

I’m particular about my computer protection. I think it’s worth the bucks to have a computer that is safe and runs well. I suggest Norton Anti-virus.
yes you have to uninstall mcafee properly.
after uninstalling it is still present in the registry.
to clear the registry download ccleaner & auslogics registry cleaner & run them.
after that download avg / avast / avira with Malwarebytes.
Dont listen to these people they don’t know anything about computers. Norton and Mcaffee are the worst ones. You need to run the mcaffee uninstaller to remove it fully you can find it on google. It’s caleld the Mcaffee Removal Tool. Go with microsoft Security Essentials. Its free and does everything automatic with no advanced settings. Avast isnt that good. Kaspersky is not worth he money. I haven’t paid for an AV in over 5 years now and never had a virus. Malwarebytes is not an antivirus. PimpMyPc
